Lamar-Dixon Hosts Louisiana High School Rodeo Association

For over 50 years now, Louisiana High School athletes have competed in high school rodeo competitions sanctioned by the Louisiana High School Rodeo Association and the National High School Rodeo Association. During the past years approximately 500 students from across the state have taken part in the activity. This year the LHSRA athletes will have the opportunity to compete in 24 qualifying rodeos held throughout our state. These rodeos are sponsored by individual clubs typically composed of participating student contestants, their parents, and other interested parties who understand the value of competition in an equine sport for students at the High School level. The South Louisiana High School Rodeo Association is one such organization.

Students who compete in qualifying rodeos vie for chance to compete in the Louisiana State Finals Rodeo held each June. Top 36 boys and girls in each of 11 different events qualify for the right to compete in the State High School Rodeo Finals. The top 4 finalists in each event at the State Finals earn a berth on the Louisiana Team that competes in the National High School Finals, the world’s largest rodeo at over 1500 contestants from the US, Canada, Brazil, and Australia. In July the Nation High School Rodeo Finals will be held in Farmington, NM.
