Sign Language Carols with Cheryl Russell

Along with the holiday season comes old familiar Christmas carols, but what if you could not hear the words or the music? What would those songs look like? Participants of all ages met at Ascension Parish Library in Galvez to learn and enjoy the beauty of signing instead of singing at Sign Language Carols led by Cheryl Russell. Russell, a retired Ascension Parish Schools’ Deaf Education teacher, guided the group as they learned the signs of “Silent Night,” “We Wish You A Merry Christmas,” and “I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas,” using recorded music tracks. The crowd was enthusiastic about learning sign language and quickly caught on to signing along with the songs. This program was initiated by the Friends of Ascension Public Library.

Ascension Parish Library hosts events for all ages, all year long. To find out what’s happening at the library, visit us online at myAPL.org.
